Hi If someone is 20, 6 months after their marriage, is it unusual for age on marriage cert to be already 20? I have a marriage for Dec 1905, bride Ellen Gilroy is 20 on cert. I can't find birth reg but from census records her age puts her as born 1886ish- I have found one that fits Jun q 1886, but name is Nelly, which I believe is often changed to Ellen. Thanks Simone x |

from my experience they all told lies, the one you have found is probably right, as the registrar only wrote what he was told. |

I remember reading that it was not unusual for people to quote their age as 'age next birthday' not 'age last birthday' as we now do. |

Thanks Valerie- Her name is Ellen Gilroy born Liverpool c 1886- Father on marriage cert is Peter Gilroy- a labourer but deceased at time of her marriage. Sure I have found her in 1891 and 1901- RG12/2964 FOLIO 6 PAGE 5- & RG13/3471 FOLIO 93 page 28, respectively. Thanks Simone |

Val, the one I have found is Nelly Nora Gilroy, West Derby district, Jun q 1886. Other Liverpool districts could be Toxteth Park, or Liverpool. |
