Great Reform Act 1832 Parliamentary Reform in Nineteenth Century England destroyed the monopoly of political power held by only a small section of the population and extended it to others. The Great Reform Act of 1832 was a major landmark in increasing the number of people who had the right to vote. It was not easy to get the Bill through Parliament but in the end, after long debate, it was passed. The Reform Act abolished a great number of 'rotten' and 'pocket' boroughs and gave seats in the House of Commons to counties and towns. The franchise was extended to holders of houses worth £10 per year and many more lease holders and tenants of land. However it still only gave the franchise to one in 24 of the total population. |

Can anyone advise please. Were there any resitrictions on who was on the Electrol roll in those days, ie. did they have to land owners of something like that? Thank you Kim |
