Hi to all, Can anyone help me with information about finding if any records exist, or what form of travel documents would have been needed, if any? Kind regards, Elaine.

Hi Elaine I'm not sure if people had to have passports to travel abroad, but my ggrandfather had a 'paper' in 1862 when he travelled back from Paris to London, saying he should be allowed to pass 'without let or hinderence'. www.1837online*com have an index of early passport applications my g grandfather isn't on it, but it might be worth a look. Look under 'new records'. Heather
