I can't find it on Ancestry, so maybe it's on the 1901 census index accessable through this site?? There are more spelling mistakes with county names on that one, I've noticed....... Trouble is, we can't search that without the first two letters of the surname (I think?)!! Merry

It could have been an enumerator's mistake, due to either poor pronunciation or poor hearing. Jay

No one is coming up for info 1801 born Trent, Maidstone. I am sure this is a mistake. One of the annoying problems which could have been solved by insisting that transcribers use a gazetteer. nell

I think Trent will just be a mistranscription, and it will be Maidstone, Kent. If you give us the name we can check the census image. Kath. x

Have you looked at the image on the census - has it been mistranscribed ? If you want me to check give me the name and year and place of birth

I'm trying to work out where a relative of mine was born. I'm a little confused as he's listed on the 1901 census as being born in Maidstone Trent Obviously I know that Maidstone is in Kent, but as far As I know the trent is Staffordshire way. Is it a spelling mistake? Can anyone clear up the region for me and I might be able to move on. Thanks
