Marriage Brick-wall - possibly pre1837

This is my last attempt to solve the problem. After this I'll probably take up knitting !!! Rebecca Elizabeth Clark(e) born about 1813. Robert Phipps (Phips) born about 1810. Both born Middlesex and lived in St Clement Danes area. Robert died in 1855 and have not yet found Rebecca's death a) because some of the records are totally illegible and b) because I have not traced a marriage, despite trying numerous spelling variations, and do not know which name she would have been recorded under. IGI has her (I think it's her) born and baptised 1811, St Martin in the Fields and a Robert born 1811, baptised 1812 in name of Robert Skinner Phips, St.Clement Danes. 1841 Census shows them with children; Sarah, born c1833, Charlotte born c1835, Robert born c1839 and Rebecca born c1840.They do not show on the 1851 as a family but Rebecca, Charlotte, Sarah and Emma born c1845 are at various addresses. Robert was by then married and is shown with his wife and his two brothers, William, born 1847 (died 1874) and George born c1849. These are all traced through the later census returns but I cannot find Rebecca Clark/Phipps on them. Birth certificates show Rebecca Clark as the mother. I believe there are still big gaps on Ancestry. If any one has any ideas or a spare 1837 credit I would be more than grateful.

I think there is something wrong with the arithmetic on your posting. If Robert junior was born 1839 how could he be married in 1851? He would have been 12 yrs. old. Or have I mis-read post? Sylvia.

There are still gaps on the FreeBMD database which is the source for the detailed/specific search on Ancestry, but they have the GRO images sort-of indexed so you can trawl them for yourself. I suggest you start there unless you are anxious to use up 1837 credits? Christine
