Hi all and Fi, I enjoyed the trip very much and thanks for all the help I got from everyone. I didnt find gtgrandads service record but I found him on the pay rolls in the Grenadier Guards earning the fantastic sum of 1s 3d a day! ( about 6p in todays money) I suppose it was a lot of money in 1868. I will certainly be going back for more clue hunting soon. Sylvia.

Thanks very much Brenda! I really enjoyed the day today and meeting you all. Will certainly be going back down there again. I'm still laughing at the poor pig who was put on half rations for three days because he escaped from his enclosure. I'm sure he learnt his lesson....not lol!

Sounds like a great time was has by all,one day i will get down there,doubtless my coastguard will raise the odd question,then his son went onto be a master mariner,and another a Coldstream Guard,a sapper in the REME from another line,must be a worthwhile trip there somewhere! I'll have to arrange collection of the Northern party to some staging post before the final leg of the journey. Glad you all enjoyed it. Glen
