I have been searching for info on my ggg grandad for some time who appeared to have gone missing from all records in 1871 (ish). Yesterday I had some amazing help from people on GR. We discovered that my ggg Grandad was missing as he was in prison! I has tried searching for prison info but cannot find a website that can help. Does any one know any good sites were I can find out more about this black sheep in the family. Thanks Michelle |

I have thanks but had no luck. He was in West Riding Prison which I think may now be called wakefield prison but had no joy actually finding any info. |

Did you find the 'Black Sheep Index'? It has all sorts of stuff. I have purchased a printout from them in the past. www.lightage.demon*co.uk/index.htm replace the * with a d o t. Anne |

The census should tell you which prison he was in. You need to locate the prison register which should be in the relevant county records office. It's probably not indexed, but you never know! Prison register info will give details of prisoner's description, crime, trial etc. nell |
