I have tried every family name with dob +/- 2 years and not one of them can be found. Yet when I go to 1901 from this site, put in a name and +/- 1 year every one comes up. Why has Ancestry not got them? Does anyone know if there is a problem with the site?? Thanks Lynne |

Probably mistranscribed by ancestry? Suzanne Update...try just putting in first names only and birth area and dates +/- a few years |

they use different transcriptions so whoever transcribed for ancestry read the entries differently. Can you post up the transcriptions from the 1901 census? Someone maybe able to work it out on ancestry for you Z |

Hi Lynne, I've got the same problem with piece RG13 1555 totally missing from Ancestry but on the link from this GR page. I mailed them about it & they said they were looking into it & 'constantly updating' and could give me no timescale whatever!!! thanks ancestry!! Very annoying I'd send them a mail telling them which piece is missing though Sarah :-) |

Thanks I don't have a full transcription on 1901 as I didn't pay to see the whole family as I have already found them in the past and just wanted to confirm something. Patrick A Duffy c1852 Ellen Duffy c1853 Youngest child - Florence Edith Duffy, 1896 Patrick born Ireland. Ellen born Derbyshire. Youngest children born Manchester. Living in Manchester in 1901. No sign of any of them or the rest of the family on Ancestry, using Soundex or Ranked Search. If anyone can find them I would be grateful. Thanks Lynne |

You need to find the people again on the 1901 on here......when you have their name showing, click the yellow rectangle icon to the left of the name.......the next screen will give you the RG13 numbers....piece, folio and page (doesn't cost anything to do that bit!). If you could post the numbers on the thread, then someone can look for them on Ancestry. I have found some of the names you need, but not in the same family! Merry |

When I first started this lark I used the govt 1901 site (now accessible through GR) and found lots of relatives mistranscribed. I've just been checking on Ancestry for the ones I found before I bothered with an ancestry sub. Where Govt had Lenorthey for Smoothy, Ancestry had a better idea with Smorthey. Not perfect, but I would have found it by searching for Smo* They also had my grandfather as Jenel whereas the GR one was Denel. His name was Jeuel so again Ancestry was a bit closer. And they got a great-great half-aunt right, surname Purvey whereas the govt site was Curvey. A Matthews is also down rightly, whereas govt had them as Maththews! So on balance Ancestry's mistranscriptions for this particular census don't seem as bad as the govt ones. |
