Back again, Right I'll plump for Lancaster 8e 748 as right Q3 in 1885. Will do a check on his dad's name. Q1 1886 W. Derby 8b 398 seems a little far from the birth date. This is my buried at sea guy. The one who was plopped in the Med of the coast of Spain, I have his co-ordinates on the Cert of death. It'd be nice to know where he came into the world. Thanks again for all your help. Karen |

If the birth was registered VERY late there would be an entry in the Q it was registered and a second entry in the Q it should have been registered (so that hasn't happened!)...... Will wait and see what happens next.....!! Merry |

Hi Merry, Sent off for 8b 533 the obvious one, but not him. Definately not Richard as middle name. Got him on 1891 census Litherland/Waterloo borough of Ormskirk born Seaforth Lancs as oppose to Liverpool lancs which made me think that Litherland was under Lancaster not Liverpool. Also got him 1901 (I think), has him Seaforth Lancs but the widow mother is down as born Dundalk Ireland where previously she was born Liverpool, but all other details match. I didn't think that born in Aug 1885 you could reg the birth Q1 of the next year 1886. Karen |

You say he lived at Seaforth/Litherland, but was he born there (does it say on the census)???? Seaforth and Litherland are West Derby reg district. WEST DERBY REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : Lancashire. Created : 1.7.1837. Abolished : 1.10.1934 (succeeded by Bootle, Crosby, Liverpool North and Prescot districts). Sub-districts : Bootle; Crosby; Everton; Everton North; Everton North West; Everton; Everton South East; Fazakerley; Kirkdale; Litherland; Toxteth Park; Walton; Wavertree; West Derby; West Derby Eastern; West Derby Western. GRO volumes : XX (1837-51); 8b (1852-1934). So these look the most likely (if he was born in either of those places) Births Sep 1885 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simpson William Richard W. Derby 8b 598 Births Dec 1885 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simpson William W.Derby 8b 533 Possibly the second one is the more likely? Merry |

It is possible with the time difference,if you have the baptism details and the parents you could order from the GRO using a parents name as a check point. If the ref number you quote doesn't match with parents you will get a partial refund. Glen |

Got William Simpson's date of birth, a handy photocopy of his baptism cert where his DOB is 19 Aug 1885. Baptised 10th Feb 1886 at St Thomas Liverpool, so sent off for certs for that date. Not him. Just wondered as he lived Seaforth/Litherland might that come under Lancaster? As found a Lancaster 8e 748 for William Simpson Aug 1885. Just wondered do you clever lot think it might be him before I wasted another £7? |
