Very handy - I have now found how I can divorce my husband, (for a 2nd time) as at the mo. my FTM 2006 is showing that we are still married, (perish the thought) I haven't done any print outs yet but can you show when married and then divorced date?? just interested, haven't really got to grips with it yet but as there are questons coming on here I'm making notes! If you do as Diane suggests then the wording in a Genealogy Report will change to read 'Fred met Mary on dd/mm/yy' rather than 'Fred married Mary.....'

If you edit the marriage details and select the 'Partners' option the report reads Jack Met Jill rather than Jack married Jill - you can also add a year or date when they met Di

I'm so pleased to have found this thread. I had the same problem with FTM 'marrying' two of my daughters to their partners, one of whom is now an ex. It was very embarrassing for them!

I think we're talking at cross purposes Yvonne. I don't need to find any information for my tree (well I do, but that's not what this is about!) I just want to know how to make parents for a child but leaving the parents UNmarried on my Family Tree Maker 2006 software programme. It seems that as soon as you make a 'couple' (which you have to do to enter their children) then FTM2006 assumes they married (even if you don't have a date), then when you make a report (text) automatically it says 'X married Y'. Sarah :-)

On the marriage notes screen is there a drop down list that you can choose the status of the relationship on? I think that's what I've done in the past - it allows you to select things such as 'separated' or 'divorced' perhaps and I thought that 'partners' was amongst the options. I've not got my program open at the moment as it its on another machine but do try looking for the marriage notes section, which is an icon after the place of marriage on the right hand side of the screen. Hi Yvonne, sorry if I'm being thick but I don't understand your reply... I know who the parents were (my brother & his girlfriend), even their parents etc etc... but I just want FTM to recognise them as a couple & not make reports about them saying that they married. Sarah :-) I can't believe that even in a software programme you're 'not allowed' to have children out of wedlock! lol It also gives me a data error on my first 2 children which my (now) huband & I had before we were married, telling me that our marriage date was after their birth - I'd like to tell FTM that it's NOT a 'data error' and we did it on purpose!!

Hi Sarah, I had the same problem my self I got round it by just searching for the parents in their own right. I must admit it took weeks to find what I was looking for but I got there in the end. yvonne

I have a couple on my tree which are not married but they had a son. When FTM makes a report it says 'Fred Bloggs married Mary Ann Thingy and...' etc. I don't want it to say they married, because they didn't! Anyone got a way around this please??..............Sarah :-)
