Hi Patricia, It isn't 'ch'. It is just 'M' for married. If you look a bit further up the page at a couple of the occupations - match making and box making, and look at the 'm' of the word making, it is just the fancy way the enumerator does his m's. Also on the next page, there is a lady with the first name Mabel. The 'M' is the same on there too. Kath. x |

I can only think it means Chief but not sure as usually it states Head but some else may be able to tell you |

I though child at first until I woke up and realised it is by Head and then wife also same thing for another family on that page |

I think it means that your are Single, Widow, Child, Married etc |

Could someone please tell me what ch or chi means on the census, it is under condition i.e. s mar or m. I have never seen this before. Thank you Pat |
