After I tried a free fortnight and cancelled before the date my card would have been debitted, I found I could still access the records for a few days afterwards. I think I made the call a day or two before the trial expired. I do remember that they were very polite, efficient and accepted my decision without question. Lovely people! Gordon

Thing is you think after a year you have drained it of all you need then they bring out some more lovely stuff to search AND you start realising you really would like to know what GGGFx5's uncle was doing in 1841 - I cant see a time when I dont want/need ancestry at the moment.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as Gillian, a 3 month trial via FTM. I've not saved much to My Ancestry - what's the benefit - to allow cross referencing with other users? I have been saving images to my hard drive for future reference, whether or not i decide to renew - it's so addictive it's hard to imagine doing without again! I started with my maternal line, got so far back and then delved into my paternal line, saving anything that looks relevant just in case!! I'm think i read on the tips board some time ago that you can cancel your subscription any time before it's due for renewal but that it won't actually stop until the due date. Can anyone confirm whether this is correct? Marion

Gill, If you try and cancel a week before it runs out it will stop then. Best to make a diary note for the actual day and ring them before they close for business - say about 4.30pm (our time).

Linda - thanks for comments I'd worked out about Ancestry just taking the subs from my card - so have made a note a week before in my outlook to try to head that off at the pass! but I had thought about doing a couple of extra months, but suspect I will take another year, cos doing it month by month after 6 your've paid for a whole year at £62 pa - have got until August 31st - had promised myself that I would just stick to main family - I'm sure you know that by now I'm hooked and am finding brothers or Gt/Gt Grandparents, it's just so nice to see where they ended up isn't it??

Usually you have to submit card details even for free trial. Unless you cancel it, they will automatically charge you for a renewed sub. You may get an email as they have diff options now ie monthly or annual etc and full sub to include Ancestry.com. If you google ancestry discount, which is what I did because I'd had a pop up and then couldn't find it when it came to renew I got directed to them and benefited from a 10% discount which brought annual uk sub to £62. Such a hefty ish price but well worth it. Hope this helps and isn't tooooo long winded :) Lynx

Well have to say I think I'm likely to renew - have tried printing out census from copies I saved to hard-drive but it comes up printing error - have emailed son to ask what I'm doing wrong but bet I wont beable to live without full sub. but was just hopeful, £70 = 10 certs. as far as I'm concerned! thanks for answers Gill

1. You won't be able to view the census images or the 1901 index 2. You won't be able to search the non cenus and non bmd indexes. 3. You won't be able to view the census images you have saved in My Ancestry Make sure you have saved to your hard drive or printed off the census images you really want. At the least, note the registration districts and folio numbers. See Alter's thread on a similar theme. If you hone your searching skills now, you will still be able to use the 1841 - 1891 indexes to search for people. While they don't show quite as much detail, if you ask the question (eg Sarah, wife, born Southampton) they will show you everyone that fits the bill. (And if you find your way to the census indexes via the National Archives website, they won't demand that you upgrade all the time)

I don't know what happens with ftm subs, but I do know that you can use the bmd image index free as long as you are registered as I did that before I renewed my sub. nell

Fairly new - have got 3 mnth free on Ancestry with my FTM 06 - I haven't been putting my tree on GR as I wanted to wait and put straight onto the FTM which I am doing slowly, am spending most of my time on Ancestry getting as much info. as poss. with the hope that I can get all the census info. I need in 3 mnths as the BMDs are free to look at - what happens when sub. runs out - will I still be able to log in with same name?? Or do they insist I upgrade/renew?? Just wondered if anyone knows - thanks Gill
