Could someone please look up for me the census details for John Land and family b abt 1831 in Limerick, Ireland and living in the Hull area in earlier years and London (St George in the East?) thereafter? He is probably listed at some time as being married to Emma (born in Hull c1843) and with children Robert, Mary Jane, Robert C & Elizabeth McCoy. Thanks, Jack

Only entries I could find for John Land born Ireland were for 1841, 1881 and 1891. You could try searching for John Lund or other likely mistranscriptions, or look for one of the children instead. nell

Can someone try this for me again, please, using Little Nell's suggestion if necessary? Thanks, Jack

when did he marry Emma (nee SKILLERN) ? pointless looking for 'them' pre marriage birth years of the children would help too

You might wish you hadn't asked..........seems like they only married in 1894 but told the census enumerator over the years that they were! The children are Robert b 1854 Hull, Mary Jane b 1860 Hull, Robert C b 1861 St George in the East, Elizabeth Mc Coy b 1870 SGitE and Julia b 1871 SGitE. All dates are approximate and the first 3 kids may have been to a Hannah, not Emma. John was connected with the docks - stevedore, docker etc. In 1851, he was living with his parents and was unmarried. Father was a shipmaker or customs man. Thanks, Jack

Yes, that's the right entry for 1881. Now where were they before that? In 1861, his wife may have been Hannah but it seems like he left her around this time and took up with Emma McCoy, so it could appear as either. As for the Skillerns, they are nothing to do with me. Isobel seems to have posted her reply to another query in my space. I have enough problems with my lot already without adding to them!! LOL Thanks again for your help. Jack
