married on IGI, how can you find out if they had children?

Hi Mandy Enter the parents names in the boxes top right of the IGI search screen and you'll get a list of children born to parents with those names. You could narrow it down by using batch numbers if the family stayed in one place. Heather

It is also mentioned in a thread 'i read somewhere that a birth registry' (somewhere at the bottom of the first page now.) The post by Ann from Sussex explains how to do it,and is something like the eighth/tenth post on the thread. Glen

BUT if they are common names like William and Mary Jones, you can't be sure they are the same parents. Also not every parish is on the IGI. I have a set of gt X3 grandparents who lived in Hardley, Norfolk when their first 4 children were born. They moved to Langley and had 3 more, but Langley isn't on the IGI. I found some likely Grays born in Langley on the census, but only proved they were connected when I got to look up the baptism details in Norwich. So if you don't find any baptisms, it doesn't mean there weren't any children. nell

If you enter the names of BOTH parents, you will only get a hit for children where both parents are named in the baptism register. Depending on the date year, sometimes it is better to just enter father's name - I'm thinking of the 1700's, when sometimes there was no mention of the mother. Jay

Thanks. No mention of the mother???? How rude!
