Normally no-name means illegitimate. Not sure what the marks could mean - unless they're ditto's, and there's a twin on the line above? Did you check to see what other names were registered at the same reference? Christine |

The thing confusing me is the Mother is showing a madien name of clark and a married name of askham which is the name I am resaerching so she was obviosuley married to the babies father. Why would he be missing? |

Perhaps the father had the same name as the baby? Was it a boy? Can you list the name and date? Perhaps there are siblings. Rose |

Perhaps Mrs Askham was a widow and the child did not belong to her late husband? How do you know her husband was the father of the child? Jay |

have one of those in my tree Miss Jones lived with Mr Smith for 20 or so years having 6 kids all registered Smith, and mother - Smith formerly Jones. Just before Mr Smith dies, they marry. (haven't got to bottom of this yet but perhaps there was another Mrs Smith?) 3 years later Mrs Smith has an illegitimate child, gives it the surname Smith, which after all is her name, and leaves father 's name space blank on birth cert. good luck! |
