Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to get copies of the marriages mentioned in Pallot's Marriage Act from the original registers in the church - and if so is there any more info. to be had by doing so.

Yes I went to the LMA (London Metropolitan Archives) and got copies of the Parish Register entries for my husband's Gx3-g-father's 3 pre-1837 marriages (2 to the same woman - my husband's Gx3-g-mother!). You won't get the same degree of detail as from a post-1837 cert, but it should say which parish they're from (not necessarily the same as their birthplace), and you'll see their signatures (or Xs) and those of the witnesses and the person who took the service, and it will say whether it was by Banns or by Licence. IF the church register survives. Not all the marriages on Pallot's index are from church records that are still around, that's why his index is so useful. nell
