Please if you have access to the 1911 Canadian census. If you have the time Please, could you see if you can find Charles Louie Boichat, born Walworth, London 1883. arrived in Quebec 25.September 1908 on the Empress of Britain. aged 24yrs. destination Virden. We have a letter he wrote in 1910 address Cromer PO. Virden. Man. Canada. after that nothing. We have been searching for two years and can find nothing. The Boichats we have found ancestors came to Canada from Switzerland. Many thanks.Chris. |

Hi Christine Try this link: http://automatedgenealogy(.)com/index.html 1911 is being indexed by volunteers. You can find out how much has been and keep rechecking if your man isn't there. What is brilliant is that you can go from the index to the actual image. All the images are already available, but you have to know the precise address to find anyone that way. |

Many thanks Phoenix, That is the problem I do not know his address. On Ancestry.com they also do the census but it has a lock on it. I just hoped that someone may have access to it already. It also has a sondex name as well as Boichat is never spelt right. Many thanks for your time. Chris. |

AG has a rather more useful feature than just Soundex: they actually show the variants which would be included, so you can tick boxes to include them within your search. You need to play around, to get used to the site, but they even have links to take you back to 1901, if family were already in the country. |

Hi Christine. You've probably already done this, but thought I would mention it.....have you tried writing to the town of Virden? The population in 1991 was under 3,000. Perhaps if you addressed a letter to the postmaster he might be able to forward it to a town historian. Just a thought, sorry. |

Virden is fully transcribed. This is the link: http://automatedgenealogy(.)com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=1510 (AG = Automated Genealogy) I cannot immediately spot your man, but the handwriting isn't brilliant and the transcriber has had difficulties. |
