My grandfather couldn't seem to make his mind up as to whether he was Frederick Charles Clarke or Charles Frederick Clarke. Even his death certificate had amendments on!! I have a marriage certificate for him and his first wife. 21st June 1915 - Charles Frederick Clarke age 22 (father Charles Frederick Clarke - occupation Engineer) and Lavinia Tower Fox age 19 (father Frederick Charles Fox - occupation Steward) I know too many Charles and Fredericks already...if you only knew what they called their children...! His death certificate 27th December 1957 names him as Frederick Charles Clarke (originally 60 years but later amended to 64) I have obtained a birth certificate for a Frederick Charles Clarke born 7th September 1893 - father Frederick Charles Clarke, occupation Ships Steward and mother Clara Elizabeth Clarke formerly Silson. As this man had 2 families we wondered whether the inconsistencies were due to him getting confused about who he was? My question is...if he was 22 when he married then that birth certificate cannot be his...however, my mum is certain that was his actual birth date. Would an error like that be made or have I got the wrong family somewhere? Please let me know if you need any further info. |

1st marriage certificate for 21st June 1915 Charles Frederick Clarke age 22 (father Charles Frederick Clarke - occupation Engineer) and Lavinia Tower Fox age 19 (father Frederick Charles Fox - occupation Steward) death certificate 27th December 1957 Frederick Charles Clarke (originally 60 years but later amended to 64) birth certificate Frederick Charles Clarke born 7th September 1893 - father Frederick Charles Clarke, occupation Ships Steward and mother Clara Elizabeth Clarke formerly Silson. ************************************************************************ Sorry, according to my maths if he was 22 in 1915 as per marriage cert, he would be born around 1893 in accordance with birth cert. If his birthday was September 1893 then the marriage cert has him down as a bit older than he actually was, but a year out here and there makes no odds. nell |

Have you tried finding him in 1901 census? |

Thanks Nell Yes not sure which name to look up under census (Charles or Frederick) I have seen a family with the name Charles & Clara Clarke but no child called Frederick or Charles. He is starting to drive me nuts! |
