what words did you google with?? I entered the words south lancashire regiment and theres a link at the top-must be loads in there-one division alone -the 3rd lists about 15 battles in France in WW1

If you go to regiments.org it gives you their history http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/040SLanc.htm#bh then click on, Battle Honours, it gives you a list of honours from the fist world war, Roy

Hi sorry but just found your posting and so you may already have this info. My 2 G uncles were in the S lancs and i have got great service from their regimental museum - it is based in preston lancs having been amalgamated into the Queens lancs regiment. it is an active barracks but if you visit (open tue-thurs 0930-1630) you just have to go thru security checks - photo taken etc and then you can spend as long as you like. There are a number of british war dead at Gorre British and Indian Cemetery Beuvry Pas de Calais including those from the South Lancs in plots V and V1. Although you did not say whether you lost your relative in France,but he may have fought in the Battle of the Lys.nearby. (try www*silentcities*co*uk) Hope you catch this Jen

Hello Jennifer, Thanks for your replies. My granddad did survive WW1 as did his four brothers which I find incredible! He spoke about the Somme and Ypres so I think that when my parents come to visit (I live in Paris), we'll visit the Somme area as it is the nearest. I will continue to research. Hello Gillian, They were named : ' The Prince Of Wales Volunteers ' ( South Lancashire ) 20 Battalions were raised 1914-1918 They were in action at Mons and employed without a break on the western front. Do you know if your ancestor survived the war ? if not, I know someone who can look up those men from the South Lancs who were killed in WW1.
