I have been searcing for a long time now for Edward Emo b.1849 Alton, Hampshire. He is in the 1851 and 1861 census with parents, he then weds Clara Jane Warner in 1870 and Vanishes!!! Clara is in the 1871 census as Jane Emo (Married) but no sign of him. Neither of them appear in another census but Clara's death was registered in Wigan in 1888. Any help or suggestions would be appreiciated. Thanks Deb |

The only 1871 Jane Emo I spotted was Edward's elder brother, Samuel's, wife. Will have another look before getting back to the grindstone! Christine |

The other Jane is married & a laundress in what appears to be an institution in Alton High Street. Not had any luck finding Edward. What did he do for a job? Were there any children? Angela |

Still can't see anything (even death records - but only used the FreeBMD database). Could they have emigrated? Just tried googling for Clara Emo, and got this: St. Louis Obituary Index 1927 J - R Leffler, Clara Emo 5/13 p44, *5/17 p43 One could imagine that a daughter might be called Clara, after her mother, and may wish to retain Emo as part of her name after marriage... Could they have gone to the USA? Christine |

Can see her now. As a servant in what appears to be a hospital - but none of the initials seems to look like EE so Edward, presumably, isn't a patient! I think I'd be inclined to try some sideways hunting... passenger lists guild of one name studies (they have a website) historical directories (there is a website of searchable ones) googling from time to time the all-purpose archives search (new - covers TNA & Docs Online) anything else which comes to mind... Hi Christine, I think I have tried most of those....although I don't think I have searched all the passenger lists!!!!! I better keep looking. I am actually a descendent of Edward's brother Samuel but because the name is so unusual I decided to tie them all up which I have done except for Edward.....I don't feel I can lay the Emo's to rest until I find out what happend to him!!! Thanks everyone. Deb |
