I have been trying for the last year to connect one James MILLER as the son of another. The IGI has James marrying Elizabeth Miller in 1830. It lists their children as John 1831 and Robert 1833. My James also has mother Elizabeth and he was born c1837, but is not listed on the IGI. Found a listing for a James and Catherine Miller on the 1851 census with a 13 year old James - father has the right occupation. My theory was that Elizabeth died and James Sr married Catherine Ronald in 1840. Liz in Scotland found them on the 1841 census for me - James, Catherine, James and 10 year old John. With John being a common name I didn't want to claim them as mine, but I was 90% sure. The clincher came to me last night as I was remembering the wording of the will for my James that I had downloaded off ScotlandsPeople earlier ......and to my brother Alexander RONALD Miller...... Aaaah -- the joys of middle names. |

LOVELY FEELING, ISNT IT. To treble check you could get the marriage cert for them to see who is dad was plus the birth cert of the boy to see his mum was who you think. |

Absolutely great feeling Heather. I'm pretty sure the certificates before 1855 didn't list anything except the bride and grooms name and their status. But both marriage and death certificates for my James have his mother as Elizabeth Miller (maiden name). And Oh, if I could find his birth certificate I would be one very happy camper. I have tried every James Miller from 1835 to 1838 and no luck. |

Bel, Thank you very much for your offer. That would be great. By the looks of it, we live in the same place. Just out the door now to go to Cobourg for a cemetery lookup for another GR member, then into Oshawa for an appointment. Will PM you when I get back later this evening. Margaret |
