I'm still trying to gather as much information from a will as I can. It mentions '...and remainder of my corn cattle husbandry ____ and ____ in trade(?)...' Missing words look like 'tarble' and 'shark'. Shark could actually be stock, but that's stretching it (it really looks like _ hark.) Anyone come across this before, please? |

Well Im pretty sure it will be 'stock in trade' that is a normal expression used in business sales/transactions. Not arable for the other one? If it is referring to his husbandry (land working/stock keeping) then tackle would make sense - his ploughs, etc. |

I think it will very likely be 'stock'. Those c's often do look like r's on those old wills. As for tarble, it couldn't be tackle, could it? Did they use tackle for cattle?? Kate. |

If this is a PCC will from 1800-1858, then it will prob be stock in trade and tackle. C's are written like a small R Merry |

Hi Heather and Kate: Thank you, for your help. The 'r's' are fairly clear on the will, but I will scrutinize it more closely. My family just got home from a camping trip; must attend to them. Thank you for your reassurance! |

Hi Merry, Tackle? I will check out google later to see what it refers to. Thank you. |
