Not the same spelling, but close: Name: Mary Maudsley Year of Registration: 1845 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Prescot County: Lancashire Volume: 20 Page: 792 If you know her dad's name from her marriage cert you could use it as a checking point. Merry |

thanks merry, i think my first spelling could be incorrect and the one you found is quite possibly the correct one, its so strange i cant find her between 1845-1861 until 1871 when she was living as mary taylor in wigan, i cant even find her marriage to James but i know she married him. confused |

I think the marriage MAY be this one..... 1865 Q1 West Derby 8b Mary Mawdsley has her page as 579 and James Taylor has his page as 577 (these page numbers are what's on the GRO index) However, there are only three names transcribed for Mary's page. Two brides and one groom. and James' page has five names transcribed. Three grooms and two brides. Sooooo.....I think it's likely that James should have page 579, removing him from 577 where he is the extra groom and evening out the other page! Maybe it would be better to buy the cert locally, rather than through the GRO??? Merry |

Well, I'm sooo lazy I would prob chance it and go for Mary's page number through the GRO, but to save money if I'm wrong.....you might have to make a couple of phone calls/emails! The registers for West Derby are divided between several offices: Liverpool, Sefton South and Knowsley I would email Liverpool (email is registrar at liverpool.gov.uk) and ask which office you need to contact for a 1865 marriage in West Derby. (I can't see that West Derby is on lancashire BMD - if it was, you wouldn't have to do this!) Maybe someone else would know if Liverpool will do family history certs? Some large/busy offices won't...... Time for another thread?? Merry |

In reply to your Q: I got the pages numbers from Ancestry transcribed records, but checked them on Ancestry GRO pages: Is 1865 about right for the marriage....once I had found this possible match, I didn't look any further?!! Merry |
