just become a paid up member on ancestry tried to look up james field from hoxton 1861 put details in the 1871 census the fisrt name for a james field comes from hornsey middlesex is this in hoxton or do i need to trawl through all the names sorry to be a bit thick lynnx

Hoxton is in London,whether it is classed as Hornsey or not i don't know.Try googling the name and you will see it is 1 1/2 miles from Whitechapel. Even though you can put name,place and year of birth in the ancestry search you can still have to look through several entries before you find a particular person.The place of birth or the year can change from census to census so it's not gauranteed that your rellie will be near the top of the results page. Hoxton is in Shoreditch, its directly north of the City of London. Hornsey is further north and west. You can check where places are by looking on www.streetmap*co.uk - replace * with. nell
