I've found the name of my ancestor but how do I know which person he married? I have a choice of two names and I haven't got a clue which one to choose. Help please? Thanks, Gail

Have you found him on the census following his marriage- and if so can you match up the wife´s name?

Elaine, He is on the 1901 census aged 13. I did a name search on BMD and found his marriage in 1908.

Do you know of any children who were born to them after 1912 - if you do you can find their birth registration on the complete images on Ancestry - and this will give the mother´s maiden name.

As this is your ancestor then you are presumably descended from one of his children. If he/she was born pre 1911 when the mother's maiden name began to be put on the index you will need to buy the birth certificate to find the mother's name.

Thank you for the information. I'll try Ancestry as you suggest Elaine.
