I don't know if I'm getting something wrong but it very confusing. I been tracing a Moses Fulwood back through the records, and believe that his father was another Moses Fulwood. His Mother was an Ann Batley. But on the 1881 cencus I found this: Ann Batley abt 1839 Wife George Batley abt 1836 Head Annie Batley abt 1870 Daughter Collin Batley abt 1872 Son George Batley abt 1861 Son Moses Fulwood abt 1862 Son A bit confusing, anyone think of a reason what could be going on?

It looks as though Moses Fulwood senior died and his widow married Mr Battley. The census ought to show Moses junior as George's stepson, but quite often it just says son or daughter when the relationship is step. nell

Unfortunately I can't find the Fulwoods in 1871. 1861 (before your Moses was born) has Moses Fulwood abt 1812 Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England Head Ilkeston Derbyshire Moses Fulwood abt 1835 Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England Head Ilkeston Derbyshire Moses Fulwood abt 1851 Langley, Derbyshire, England Son Ilkeston The oldest one, whose death I found, is probably your Moses' grandfather. nell

ah that would make sense. I believe older Moses was born 1847c. The problem with the death date seems to be that Ann Batley seems to have had her second child with her new husband only a year after Younger Moses was born.

Oh, I see what you mean! Where did you get his mother's name from - a birth cert? Perhaps Moses was illegitimate.
