Would they be christened miles from birthplace?

People sometimes give the name of the nearest sizeable town to the village where they were born on the census. Also, sometimes it just has the wrong placename! For instance, the form could have been filled in by another family member who didn't know everything. As for whether somebody would be christened miles from their birthplace, well, if the family moved to another village before they had the baby christened that could happen, or if the baby was born when the family was away from home, or if they had some reason for getting him christened at a different church - perhaps where the grandparents lived, or the vicar was a family friend, or it was the nearest church for their particular denomination? A family I'm researching in the census, the husband gives his place of birth as Weston (nr Spalding). His wife was born Threekingham (nr Boune) and I've found a poss chr. for her on IGI in Aslackby which is the next village, and also their wedding in Aslackby. The prob is the only birth I can find for him on IGI is at Horbling (next village to Aslackby) but in the census he gives his birthplace as Weston. This is miles away form Horbling, so I'm confused now! Carole xx
