How do you go about finding

Interesting things about your ancestors I only know how to look them up in parish registers and census info. Any ideas please. For instance some people in my tree I can't find them on the census so where do you go to see if they were transported.

Hi Sue Googling the more unusual names in your tree can reveal unexpected facts. Using A2A or the National Archives' website site search can throw up bits and pieces. If you are used to using parish registers then perhaps you have used a county record office? This is the best place to pick up bits and pieces: wills before 1858 and poor law records. They may also hold local newspapers and these will may give reports of marriages, funerals etc. Good luck!

NB I don't remember when transportation stopped, but it was pretty early. The most likely reason that you can't find someone on a census is that they've either given misleading information or the entries are mistranscribed. If they have emigrated, life gets much tougher, but family search has 1880/1881 censuses for America and Canada
