I can tell you without reservation that the baptism records will be on microfiche in Liverpool Central Library. On Floor 4-the records section,there is a map of the City and outskirts on the wall witha number index of all the catholic churches-once you pick out a church you go to an index folder which has a spool code in it- families would tend to go to their local or nearest church-so a location in the city is needed to narrow down the search. There are about 60 Catholic Churches on the Map.

Baptisms for Liverpool pre 1837 will most probably be with the the County Record Office, as all Baptisms are in this sort of repository pre 1837. Sometimes the Catholic Churches still have the Baptisms as they did not always deposit them, due to the fact that a Catholic Baptism was, strictly speaking, illegal pre 1829 Catholic Emancipation Act, athough there was much leniency on this front from about 1780 onwards. ln this case you would need to know the name of the Catholic Church to be able to follow this up. However, I would try the County Record Office route first and be prepared for the fact that they may have been baptised in a protestant church, as was required to be legal, pre 1829 . The CRO baps sometimes give you place that person is coming from if the person has just arrived in the parish. They usually state name and whether or not OTP, which means 'Of This Parish'. If not OTP then they may give you place they are from. You could also try to look for a Settlement Certificate to see if that will give you any more info, but Settlement Certs have not always survived but you never know so worth a try. You could also try getting in touch with the Diocese for that area and ask their advice if you have no joy at the CRO. Janet

What do you mean by not on ancestry? Civil Reg only started in 1837. Catholics also aren't big fans of having their stuff on familysearch.org.

Oh yes. l can't find any of their births on ancestry so don't even know if they were baptised. At least there seems to be a set of twins so only 2 to look for. Thanks for your input. Pam

I would think straw clutching but you never know what extra notes mighbt have been made. If they are Irish are they Catholics?

My 4xs great grandfather Daniel Logan was born and married in lreland. They have at least 3 children l know of born in Liverpool 1820s. Would anyone know if the baptism records would give their parents birthplaces? Or am l clutching at straws here. Pam
