have just found out a family member was a tea merchant (in 1881 was retired) where do i look for more info on this and if he will be any papers or books anywhere, sam

It depends what level of Tea Merchant he was..... It's a bit like saying does a grocer run the corner shop or is his name Sainsbury?!! What was his name....I have done a lot of searching for my tea merchants.......... Merry

his name was George Hulse born 1806 in Clutton (birkenhead/liverpool area) england on the 1881 census just says retired tea merchant..was hopping i might have found at least 1 respectable family member ,..lol

yeah thats him and he is a ag lab on all the others just bin rechecking so looks like he wasnt a rich tea merchant doesnt it...will have to go for another brandy for my sorrows...sam

LOL - Maybe he was a brandy ''merchant'' on the side?? (Suppose the date is too late to be a smuggler!??) Quite strange swap of occ though, isn't it? Merry

Big swap ..must have bin a miracle worker aswell...on 1851 a tick was put in the box for blind or deaf for his wife then she was perfect on the other census...must have had a brandy aswell..lol sam
