I have a marriage on the Pallots Marriage Index between Isaac Lemmon and Ann Butler from 1786 at St George in the Borough - does anyone know if this is the same a St George, Southwark - as I've googled this and it appears to be Roman Catholic - so I can't figure out how a Catholic church is on Pallots (I thought this was only Church of England), Zoe, xx

Might be worth trying the thread-search. I think this has been discussed already. Christine

St. George the Martyr on Borough Road in Southwark isn't Roman Catholic or Presbyterian. My grandad was baptised there and it's Church of England. Kath. x

Well, Southwark is loosely classed as East Ender type land - though his South-east ender - they would have had a quick walk to get their from the other side of the river, or run through the tunnel! OR possibly at that early date pre tunnel time, paid one of my watermen ancestors to row them over!

Heather don't fancy THAT much. this is one wedding I'll not be re-enacting should I ever get the chance - getting in a boat in my lovely white frock!! or going through the tunnel! Although judging by their childrens birthdates I doubt she had much call for wearing white anyway ;o) Z x

Well, they didnt get dressed up then did they, unless they were very rich - and I doubt if your mob were if they were wandering between the East End and Southwark! I reckon a lot of them just popped in and then went back to work.

Zoe, I think you know me from another forum. Seems you and I have a lot in common. Not only do I have Norfolk Roots but I come from the East End of London - born in Stepney (East End Maternity Hospital on the Commercial Road) but lived in Poplar for the first 18 years of my life. Cheers, Horatia
