Helena,You were very lucky getting info.from the priest. Most of the parishes put their info.in Heritage Centres, and they are expensive.I have been looking for my grandparents in Co.Meath, not sure if it is the right place,as my father said he was born in Navan. Not true(Liverpool)but his parents were 'born Ireland'no county. They were Weldon, common to Meath.I found them on the 1891 census in Liverpool, with a one year old, cant find the marr. in Liv.they must have marr. in Ireland.the son born Liv.I had a 5 year search back in Dublin, nothing, then I wrote to every Weldon in their local phone book.I phoned the ones that didnt answer.Every one was very nice, some didnt know much about their own ancestry, some said there was no connection, the Heritage Centre searched a couple of indexes(£15)I joined the IFHS,and got nowhere.and was in it for a long time. This was after I was told the priest couldnt help.I am no further on so you have been so lucky.I recently got two baptismal certs, from a priest.but I have relations still living in the very small village,a personal visit might help. Good luck. Margaret

Alter Ego Sorry, but Clonmel comes under the Diocese of Cashel and Emly and those parish registers are not available to the public except by paying the Tipperary Heritage Society, but you can go to Ireland and find a sympathetic B&B in the area who may be able to ease a pathway through for you to the local parish priest!! Yes, I have the same problem, two relatives in Australia who were born in Ireland, but no idea where, and very common names (Kelly and Cassidy).

Well done, but at least you have a parish. I just have a name and a notion! 1848 marriage cert has Dennis McCarthy marrying Elizabeth Alice Goodwin. Dennis' dad is Callaghan McCarthy. Can't find Callaghan of right age occupation on any census in England. Dennis changes to James Carter, but consistently says he was born in Holborn. Can't find him pre-1851 either, nor can I find Elizabeth and her family. I am guessing Callaghan McCarthy was Irish and that possibly Dennis was born in Ireland but goodness alone knows where, I don't even have a county to start with!! nell

I just wanted u all to know... I am trying to research my fathers side and he is an irish man... he is from Graiguenamanagh in Kilkenny. I emailed their parish church and got a list of relatives, not only helpful but FREE!!!!!! many of these little towns have parishes and the are an integral part of life there so i would advise getting in touch with the local parish... it certainly helped me. Not only did I get a list, but i got addresses and phone numbers too. Happy searching!! Helena
