Hi I have received my hotmatches this morning and I seem to have a problem. I have 80 surnames ranging from Armstrong to Wilson and 500 people in my tree but my hotmatches again only cover 2 ie Armstrong and Dawson. As these are spread over 5 pages surely I should have some more ie I have 177 people with the surname of Stephenson whilst only having 4 with the name of Armstrong. Has anyone else had this problem. Yes, you will get a lot of Hot Matches for EVERY surname eventually but it takes so long to get to the surnames at the other end of the alphabet because GR matches to name and birth year only but doesn't include birth place which would cut out so many false matches! Cheers, Horatia |

Hi. Yes I have had exactly the same problem as you ever since Hot matches started. I have over 2000 names in my tree and every month only get matches from A to C or D. What has happened to the rest of the alphabet? I have logged a request to GR support but have never received any reply. At least my family with names starting with the early letters of the alphabet has grown over the last year !!!!! Regards Brian |

Yes sorry it is a 'feature' of trhe way it works, not a fault as such. Hot matches only does 100 names at t time. One of the propblems with this appears to be that next time, if anyone has refreshed their tree it sees them as new names so they get done again, so it is like two steps forward and one back. It does start to get through the alphabet eventually, but it does seem to take an awfully long time. At the moment I have 6 pages of connected members i.e. about 120, with approx 600 names (there are couple of large connections) and around 14 pages of ignored matches, approx 280 members, with well over 500 names between them, but no connection with my tree. |

Peter. Many thanks for your explanation of this 'feature' to hotmatches. It would have been nice of GR to advise us so that we did not expect new hotmatches if we had updated our gedcom file since the last list. ( Although at the present time I am having problems updating my tree, as are many other people). I think I will just leave my tree without any further updates, once I can get it back onto this site. Regards Brian |

Aaaagh,( enlightenment !) I`ve been wondering why my hot matches don`t seem to include the new names I`ve found when I do a search.Maybe I`ll have to `wipe off ` the BROWN`s on my tree to make way for other surnames!! ( only joking) I just hope it doesn`t take me as long to figure anything else out, I`ve been a member for about 18mths!! |

Have you noticed that some have a little 'new' icon next to them. I tend to only click on those because its too much of a drag to look at every single one. And yes, they are working through the alphabet as Im still on Catherine Unknowns and every Dixon on the entire planet other than those Im related to. |

I suspect Im having probs with hotmatches. 2 messages received this evening from new contacts. 1st - says that they note my hotmatches are switched off. This can't be as I haven't switched it off and received list of hotmatches a few days ago. 2nd - my name appeared on their hotmatches as we share a few ancestors. Strange thing is this new contact has not appeared on my hotmatches so have asked for the names of shared ancestors. Also I should have more hotmatches. When I do a search of names of tree members in other GR trees it comes up as a hotmatch, but these don't appear on my hotmatch list. Am confused, something is amiss. Anyone having same or similiar probs???? |

Hot matches are cr*p! The main name in my tree is Hill, for months I have only been getting hot matches for A's and B's, I was beginning to think I would never get to H never mind further beyond. Today, I have had 4 pages for Pointon!! What about all the letters inbetween B and P - will I ever get to see them? Sam x |

I stopped updating my tree months ago because I couldn't seem to get past the A, B and C's. Now I have at last got to the T's. It seems that everytime anyone updates their tree GR treats them as new names and put them as hotmatches again. Sylvia |
