Sooooo fed up. Just got a marriage cert and the fathers mentioned on it are not who I thought it should be! I was so certain that I was on the right tracks and have traced back double checking. Now this means I have to start again with two branches. Not asking for help, but please tell me not to give up. I need the motivation to carry on!!!! Off to make HUGE cup of tea and do something different, like house work or summat. Yep, things are that bad! MandyX |

Not patronisingly, but wait a while and look at the cert again. I know that Ive had a couple of times when I ve got the cert thought oh no, its not the right people then gone back to my records and found it actually was. For instance, sent off for a birth cert of a child hubbys side. The census gave mums name as Ellen (same name as child). I send off for cert - back it comes - mother Harriet Hutton. Sickened - then I traced backwards again, hang on, the right guy married a Harriet, erm and there is a Harriet living in the same town as him when he was in barracks as a soldier. Bought the marriage cert and yep it was the right birth cert after all. A census error over name had thrown me. On the other hand, send for a death cert thinking it was my ancestor - then bought his will and the wifes will - all the right names but the kids were wrong on the will. Double checked and this wasnt my man. BUT at least I knew it wasnt - better than just accepting. You will go back and start again and find out if its the right cert after all or be grateful that you have eliminated someone at an early stage. |
