For the first time, I've just been through my Hot Matches list & deleted all the one name matches without even looking at them!!!.............. I started out OK & looked but decided genes has got gremlins again the first one I looked at had 1 match so I clicked & it said 'Charles Baker 1842 Somewhere' about 8 times. I feel very naughty not even looking at them, but it takes SO long (there were 6 pages) and I've not yet had a 'one new name' be a match.............Gawd - now I'm trying to justify myself !!!.......... Sarah :-) |

you are not alone,LOL.......the facility is actually self defeating if you have common names in your tree,as we end up closing all the doors........Ive lost count of the scottish john smiths I get thrown at me,I havent got an ounce of scottish in my rellies, does the swede in ,so I just bin the lot-Ive always had more success going looking for people myself. |

Thanks for that Alter & Suzanne, I'm glad I'm not the only naughty one on this site then... I feel very guilty because the basic idea of hot matches is a good one but it definitely needs tweaking: perhaps we could earmark people in our tree to be matched or not (then we could weed out the Mary Ann Jones's & the William Smith's) and take the time to look at other matches... Sarah :-) |

I think it must be the gedcom thing not uploading properly I got a K and it was one of mine!!! Back to A-H next week I expect. I have given up deleting mine as they only go into ignored hot matches. I just open them look at them and leave them unless it is an unusual name or very early. After a while I get someone with about twenty matches and it is safe to say we might be tracing the same family. I have found some good contacts and last week I got one of my contacts back as a new hot match and contacted him again. He has done some more research and managed to get some more accuraate dates. |

i am seriosly think of removing John Smith from my tree as a resultof the pointless lack of filters used ...think I'll give him a made up surname so that i dont mess anyone about... a name that doesnt exist. |
