Hi all, I'am looking Harry Fryer born 1925 but don't know where he was born. Will army records show any details and if so how can I get hold of them and is it possible to access them on the net. Best wishes Cheryl |

Thanks Joyce, But Harry didn't die in the war, I thought Army records might say where he was born. Cheryl |

have you checked how many possibles via ancestry bmd? If not too many you could pick one by one! have you got an exact birthdate that would help narrow it to the correct quarter? also the names of siblings could help if you know them army records would be an option if you know his service number but my grandads only have date of birth - not place. netti |

just had a quick look and there are 3 Henry Fryers in 1925, all december quarter. Henry A Fryer Southampton (mum Pearce) Henry W Fryer West Ham (mum Spencer) Henry W Fryer Dartford (mum Fryer) any of these seem likely? |

Netti, Harry's birth was 16 sept 1925. I have been down this road before with no luck. I have his service no and a medal with Korea on it and was hoping I might be able to gain some info from it. Cheryl |

Hi Cheryl have you discounted all the 1925 ones then? Did you know if he had a middle name? going back to army records - mine cost me £25 and took 3 months to arrive. No online looking I am afraid |

Cheryl, I am sure someone will corect me if I am wrong, but unlike WW1 records, if your Harry, is deceased you will need to be his next of kin, or have their permission to obtain his service records. Jennifer |

Netti, Harry didn't have a middle name on his marriage or death certificate. I do know that Harry's father was called George Henry Fryer and that he was an electrician. Jennifer. Harry is my husbands father so hopfully we should be able to obtain info from the army although it probably would not give the info we are looking for. Cheryl |

His service record WILL give you the info you are after, and it will be fairly straightforward getting his records because of your husband's relationship. Write to Army Personnel Centre, Historic Disclosures, Mailpoint 400, Kentigern House, 65 Brown Street, GLASGOW, G2 8EX. You will receive an apllication form and information pack. Waiting time at the moment is in months. Good hunting. Keith |

Hi Cheryl, I just applied for my dad's records three weeks ago. They told me it would take 6-8 months first of all and then they contacted me last week to say that it would take even longer. They came this morning. It now costs £30 for them. Anne |
