I have been searching for a marriage for ages now and rang the local Registry Office for a copy and they have looked on two occasions and can't find it. I've been searching through the marriages at the Record Office and can't find it. It is listed on FreeBMD, which is where I got the information from. Has anybody come across this before because it looks as if it has been transcribed incorrectly |

The local office will use different references to those given on freebmd. Much easier just to order on line through the freebmd site............ Reg |

The local reg office will have had to look through the separate index for each marriage venue in the district (unless you know where the marriage took place). Maybe they missed one? I would order via the GRO. Merry |

Have you checked for the names on Ancestry bmd? There are some mistakes on freebmd. Heather |

Thanks for all who replied. Sorry, I have just ploughed through about 4' of paperwork on the floor to find it and the marriage was on Ancestry, not FreeBmd (apologies to them). There is a marriage in Dec qtr 1947 Gosport between Shirley Holman and R.A Hoare-Cains (although they have Hoare-Cairns). There is a second marriage for Shirley Josephine Hoare-Cains 22nd Sept 1951 at St.Thomas Elson Gosport and I have a copy. She is declared as a widow of full age. I have two R.A Hoare-Cains, so that's why I am trying to get the certificate to find the right groom. I didn't know you could order certs through FreeBmd. How long do they take to come through? Thanks PS I asked the Registry Office to check for Cains, Cairns, Hoare-Cains, Hoare-Cairns and Holman, all turned out negative. |

the bmd image is so clear, the gro should have a copy of the cert as it's indexed ShirleyJ Holman and Ralph.A Hoare-Cairns married dec qtr 1947 in Gosport 6b 667. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ If you order at the above address with all the above details, it will cost you £7 to order online. since the GRO have indexed the marriage, they should have a copy. |
