You don't put the birth year in when you're looking for a marriage....... Where are you actually looking? On freebmd..........or on Ancestry full records? And which years are you searching? Mind you, unless you have some idea of who she married, it's going to be a real 'needle in a haystack' operation. Not to mention 'lucky dip'. Reg

Hi Hazel Found this on 1851 - will look to see if this is a possible marriage Charles Roberts abt 1847 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Son Cheshunt Middlesex Rebecca Roberts abt 1844 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Daughter >> Richard Roberts abt 1818 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Head >> Sarah Roberts abt 1820 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Wife Sarah Roberts abt 1842 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Daughter William Roberts abt 1850 Northaw, Hertfordshire, England Son Cheshunt Middlesex

I can't find a marriage for her on the IGI in Hertfordshire. You possibly won't find her marriage in the indexes on Ancestry, as if she was born in 1819, she may have married before registration began in 1837. Kath. x

reg, i was on freebmd index i put the name and yr that she was married [sarah pope which was about 1842 which is a guess hazel

At this early date, and without knowing exactly when and where she married, it will be virtually impossible to find the marriage. There are quite a lot of Sarah Pope marriages around this time, but I don't know how you will decide which is the right one, without more information. Kath. x

Hazel Nothing showing up on freebmd on ancestry - as you have found yourself. You now need to look through the 'beta' pages, quarter by quarter, year by year. (Have you found her in 1841?) She could have married as early as 1838.

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 26 May 2006 15:14

There are over 50 possible marriages from Sep 1837 to Dec 1850,you could discount most if you know where she married, but that's assuming it was post Sep 1837. Glen

KathleenBell Report 26 May 2006 15:15

She could actually have married as early as 1831/2 as girls could marry at 12 years old back then (indeed they could marry at this age with parental consent right up until 1927). You won 't find the spouse's name in the indexes at this time anyway. Kath. x

Nothing showing for Hertfordshire marriage up to 1844. As already said, she could have married before 1837.
