I think the Estate Duty Officer works as the Estate Duty Office which is part of the Inland Revenue. He would have clerks working with him. The EDO assesses the value of an estate when someone dies in order that the correct death duties are paid. But I suppose there would be EDO's working all over the country, from various Inland Revenue offices?? Merry

They may have worked at the courts as the job (Estate Duty Officer) would indicate that he was a court official? found this Administering your estate Your Will takes effect upon your death. Your executors would have to apply to Court for a Grant of Probate. The Court will only issue the Grant after the Estate Duty Officer has certified the following: a. the value of your estate; and b. i the amount of estate duty payable and the fact that it has been paid; or ii that no estate duty is payable. this leads me to think he was the tax man Roy
