for any site i just put the words in the box,and click on the various links,until I get there- there is one that takes you to the sheffield family history site-it is blue and silver-at the bottom left is the census link-when you click on that its a brown site- i just enter archives sheffield in the box >>>!!

Alter, did you mean this one? http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/libraries/find/archives/sheffield-archives/collections/family-history-sources or just go to www.sheffield.gov.uk and follow the menus, which I have to say for a gov site I found quite easy! I don't think this site links to any actual records though. The second one Roy (Porkie Pie) gave does access census returns and other bits & bobs. It is NOT run by the local authority. (the second address has superceded the first)

archives(A T) sheffield.gov.uk ....... replace the brackets and leters inside with the squiggly at symbol........there is a link to thye sheffield family history society there,blue site,very snazzy,youll see the census link at the bottom.

Those needing sheffield research -they have an excellent site- free 1841 census search amongst many many other things- they seemed to have got their act together bigtime- try it.........
