Because George is only 4 months that means he was probably born in the Dec Qtr of 1900 or March Qtr. 1901. |

This might be George, you could use parents names as checking points. Name: George Knight Year of Registration: 1901 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Hackney County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 562 (click to see others on page) |

Alice Knight abt 1870 Bethnal Green, London, England Wife Bethnal Green London George Knight abt 1900 Bethnal Green, London, England Son Bethnal Green London John Knight abt 1873 Islington, London, England Head Bethnal Green London John Knight abt 1899 Shoreditch, London, England Son Bethnal Green London I would go for George, reg either Q4 1900 or Q1 1901.... And this could be John ame: John Knight Year of Registration: 1898 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Hackney County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 477 (click to see others on page) I have quite a few from hackney/Bethnal Green and they always say born Bethnal Green but are registered in Hackney - but Bethnal Green does have its own registration district so it depends on whereabouts they lived in Bethnal Green. |

I have no idea - sorry! Just a thought - could you look on the census page and see if there are other babies with unusual/less common surnames and see where they were registered? |

Val, I've just had a closer look and John was actually born in Shoreditch, This could be him, it is the only one that looks possible: Name: John Thomas H Knight Year of Registration: 1898 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Shoreditch County: London, Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 71 (click to see others on page) |

I thought I would help, but it isn't working......nextdoor to the Knights are a family called White......Harriet is aged 1 month. But she is reg in Bethnal Green :o(( Births Mar 1901 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- White Harriet Jessie Bethnal Green 1c 169 Maybe the border between the reg districts fell along this street?? I would probably either sent of for the Shoreditch cert for the older boy, or do George and specify the father's name. (Or hope the cert comes back as born at Arline St!! Merry |

I can't say much about the ref checking thing, because I've never used it! If the GRO didn't send the cert, I would just be dying to know what had been on the cert, or whether they had made a mistake! I do know it's down the bottom of one of the last pages when you are ordering. Lunch was yummie thanks.....! Merry |
