Batch numbers.........the easiest way to explain is to show an example: ELIZABETH EMMS Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 10 SEP 1815 Withington, Gloucester, England Parents: Father: WILLIAM EMMS Family Mother: ANN Source Information: Batch No.: : C032852 Now, I click on the batch number and get a new search box..........I put in the surname, plus parents' forenames in the appropriate boxes, click on search and get............ Emms, British Isles Father: William , Mother: Anne Exact Spelling: Off Batch Number: C032852 [refine search] Prepare selected records for download International Genealogical Index / British Isles - 4 Select records to download - (50 maximum) 1. JAMES EMMS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 23 MAY 1814 Withington, Gloucester, England 2. ELIZABETH EMMS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 20 AUG 1815 Withington, Gloucester, England 3. ELIZABETH EMMS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 10 SEP 1815 Withington, Gloucester, England 4. MARY ANN EMMS - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 24 MAY 1818 Withington, Gloucester, England So the likelihood is that these are siblings......... Hope this helps a little Reg |

The batch numbers are those given by the transcribers of parish records. Usually there would be one batch number for (say) births between certain dates. A very useful site is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb*com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/ Scroll down and find the county and then the parish you want. Then you can search for a surname in that batch. Hope that helps Anne |
