Penton doesn't appear to be a place big enough to warrant a mention on GENUKI. I think I'll just give up on this one. Maybe Merry is right and the birth wasn't registered after all. Even though I can't find his birth, I know he definitely existed from other records that I've found. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll delete this thread later. JJH

Penton does appear on GENUKI. You are then referred to Nichol Forest. The address is: http://www(.)genuki(.)org(.)uk/big/eng/CUL/NicholForest/index(.)html Remove brackets Denis (fae Brigton)

Looks like you got the birth Rose, It was doing my head in trying to find Penton on a map and on the register, I never looked for the birth as several people on here with lots of experiance had tried and found nothing and the original post was to that effect, so i was trying to pin the district down. My thanks to everyone for their help, especially to you Rose for that birth info I appreciate it very much. JJH Denis, are you from Bridgeton or was it a spelling mistake for Brighton? JJH

Brighton? That's somewhere in Englandshire? Actually I put that in there to see if you'd pick up on it. To be honest i've got a flat in Brigton where I keep my student daughter in luxury but I started life in Possil. Now I'm in Inverness but go down there about once a month to make sure the flat's still there and hunting for antiques in the Barras But my Glasgow connections all started around Camlachie, Duke Street etc and I'm still working on that. Do you know how many James Fergusons there were in Glasgow!? Takling of Fergusons I didn't need an explanation of where Yogi originated. I used to watch that guy - from the blue end of course! Keep in touch. Denis. PS I actually connected up with family in Brighton through GR.

Ann, Yes, I've actually enjoyed many a visit there, although not for some years. Now I'm in touch with quite close family there I'm working on a whole new branch of my tree. Chichester - isn't that that place just outside Fishbourne? Denis.
