Thanks Annie Sorry about the delay, but had to go out. I'm fairly certain on the marriage (Arscott/Sleeman)., now waiting to check it with the Devon FHS. Thomas's pob.is consistently given as Tavistock which leads me to discount Tiverton. Thanks again for your suggestions. Mick

On the IGI I found the following for Halberton which is near Tiverton christenings Father George Arscott mother Mary Thomas 13 October 1804 Mary 18 Jan 1804 William 6 Jan 1814 Susannah 9 Jan 1811 Embling 17 September 1815 John 6 Jan 1809 I think the IGI should be worth a look. I also found the marriage of Thomas Ascott to Elizabeth Upton 19 Aug 1821 at Halberton. Are you sure you have the right marriage. christening 19 October 1800 Elizabeth Upton parents Henry Upton Charity

I should have thought you'd need to see the parish register image. The Devon Record Office(s) have/has the PR images on fiche. They have website(s). http://www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm - that sites has relevant links, including... http://www.plymouth.gov.uk/archives I can't imagine a legal marriage without any witnesses at all. Christine PS - there's also Devon FHS: http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/

Thomas Arscott b.1804 Tavistock. Elizabeth. b.1804 North Hill, Cornwall. I have, thanks to the Sydenham Damerel OPC, a marriage date of 24-08-1828. but no parents & no witnesses listed. Nothing seems available on the IGI. Where do I go next? TiA Mick
