Hi All births, deaths and marriages are normally registered at the local Registration Office for the district in which the event occurred. Births and deaths, however, may have been registered in the district of the home address at that time. An application for a birth, death or marriage extract should, therefore, initially be made to the appropriate District Registrar. If you require a copy of a birth, death or marriage extract which was registered in Gretna, you may obtain this using a credit or debit card - please contact the registration office for further information. If you are not sure where the birth, death or marriage was registered, you can apply to the Registrar General for Scotland, who holds all birth, death and marriage records for Scotland. If you were adopted and this was registered in Scotland, you may only obtain a copy of your adopted Birth Certificate only from the Registrar General. Fee A birth, death or marriage extract in Scotland is normally £13.50. If, however, the extract is purchased within the same year that the event was registered the fee is £8.50. Subsequent copies of the same certificate are also £8.50, if ordered at the same time. If you wish to make a payment by credit/debit card, please contact Gretna Registration Office on 01461 337648 Denis |

Just to add that online index of Scottish events will not run as late as you want. Births are closed for 100 years (nothing post 1905 on line) Deaths are closed for 50 years (nothing past 1950's) Marriages closed for 75 years (nothing past 1930) The first post is your best guide and if you go to the Scottish GRO homepage it is explained there as well.
