If fathers name appears on wedding cert, does that mean he was alive at time of wedding....does it always have deceased under it if he had died? janet |

I have some marriage certificates where I know that the father was deceased, but it doesn't say so on the certificates. Confused me for ages! Maggy |

For first marriage, a line was put thru fathers' name and occupation so it looked as though rellie did not know his father! However, for second marriage, it stated his fathers name, that he was deceased and his occupation was a woollen weaver!! Thank goodness he got married twice, eh?!!! Helen x |

I've had one relation who put his stepfather down as father and was using his stepfather's surname.........fortunately I hadn't found that record first or I would have been confused. I also had an ancestor whose marriage certificate I'd been waiting for to work out his father's name and all it says in that bit is the word 'dead'. How annoying is that?!!! Sue |
