sorry, this is a bit long... I SENT THIS TO BUCKS FHS My ggg grandmother, Jane Lamborne, was christened in Ludgershall on 30/01/1814 Her parents were Richard & Elisabeth. I found this information on Hugh Wallis IGI, there only seem to be girls on the christening records (I found a probable sister, Susanna, chr 24/02/1812) and they have no marriage records. Your site shows that you have more information. Could you tell me how to access it please? (This is the first time I've contacted a society like yours so I really have no idea) I live in France so a visit is impossible THE REPLY WAS THIS We have transcriptions of the parish Registers of baptism, marriage and burial for Ludgershall from 1573 to 1837, these are in paper booklet form and are in our library, they are for the use of our members who may borrow them to use at home, by post to anywhere in the world if necessary. If you are interested in joining the society, 14 pounds annual membership fee for overseas members (this can be paid for by credit card now, please see our website) and there are many other benefits of membership if you have Buckinghamshire ancestors, then please go to our website at – www.bucksgs.org.uk to read more about us and to find the instructions for joining. This is the only ancestor I have so far in Buckinghamshire so I am loathe to pay £14 for the booklet. Does anyone have it, or could scan relevant pages of it for me??? Sarah:-) |

Don't they do searches? I know I paid about £2 or £3 and got a list of all the marriages in Bucks for a specific (unusual) surname. nell |

You are unlikely to see more than you can on the IGI. The transcript is only going to be a typed record, not the original. |

Thanks Nell & Peter, This was the last bit of the mail which made me forget the idea of having a search done: Alternatively, the old original registers for all the parishes in Buckinghamshire are held at the local archives, the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies (CBS) at Aylesbury Bucks. For people who cannot get there to look at them for themselves there is an associated list of experienced, independent, researchers who will, for a reasonable fee (sometimes more than the membership fee of the BGS), look up information for enquirers. Both the CBS and the researchers have websites you will find these at – http://www.buckscc*gov*uk/archives/ http://www.buckscc*gov*uk/archives/intros/searchers.htm Please note! I have found in a record I have here that there was a family of farmers living at Ludgershall, called Lambourn in the year 1798. He wrote the 'please note!' not me! - just to get me going... Sarah :-) |

Have you tried their website? Some FHSs have members who do lookups for people just like you who only need one or two references. Alternatively try emailing the County archive. For a small fee they will probably photocopy the entry for you. Anne Update - the replies you've had from them don't seem very helpful I must say! |

Hi have you tried this site http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search As I just looked and there are lots of details for Lamborne. There is a marraige for Richard Lambourne to a Lizzie Amelia Upton on 11/06/1890 at Mursley Buckingham. I know it is not the same spelling but a lot of details come up when you search that name it is worth a look and you dont have to pay. |

Thanks for reminding me Gwen, I've just been through about 3000 records - can't find Richard & Elisabeth but I've found some male christenings (different batch no) in Ludgershall, not for the years I'm looking at though :-( I wrote back to bucks fhs saying I thought it was a bit steep & telling them what I was looking for (ie Jane's siblings & her parents' marriage , and any burials of these). Perhaps they will have a more human reply this time.... Sarah :-) |
