Sorry Merry, I was looking at Parish registers, not bmd. I didn't think there was a date for those (I've never tried bmd on there, prefer to trawl ancestry if freebmd's no good) Sarah :-)

Family relatives has transcriptions of all the GRO indexes from 1866 - 1920 (it has the other years as well, but they are not transcribed, so it's just the same as 1837online or Ancestry viewable pages (but of course, Ancestry is free for that!) Anyway.....for 1866-1920 the records on FR are fully searchable, but you have to consider what info is available on the GRO index.....obviously they have only transcribed what is on the index! So, you can search with mum's maiden name for births post 1911 Q3 and also with spouse surname for marriages after 1912.....but all only up to 1920. For 1866 - 1911 you can ask it to do a marriage match. This pulls up all the people with the same GRO details (the same as FreeBMD does).....It can help you on the odd occassion that FreeBMD has not transcribed all the names.... You can't do a marriage match before 1866 because the records are not transcribed! Merry

When you say: ''I tried family relatives org & can't make it bring up any matches at all for Parker/Spanton'' Do you mean for a marriage? You can't get a marriage match before 1866 on FR! (can you?????) Merry

Yes I saw that too! It gave me a great laugh - just the sort of typo I make. The implications of genes reuntied is just what it feels like somtimes when searching and only finding other people's ancestors! Anne

My genes are quite untied & I'm trying to tie them up. I've got a birth cert for Mary Lucy Parker (1/1/1852 Bixley) mother: Maria Frances Spanton father: Thomas Parker (gamekeeper) mother was informant. Maria is on 1841 aged 10 with father Frances Spanton (innkeeper at St John Timberhill, Norwich) & then she disappears Thomas is completely invisible Mary is on 1861 with grandfather (Francis H Spanton). I've looked on Hugh Wallis & there are no Spantons on St John Timberhill & I tried family relatives org & can't make it bring up any matches at all for Parker/Spanton. Thought it's be easier with the cert but it's just opened up a whole new set of closed doors. Anyone got any ideas?? Sarah :-)

Saw it written like this on the success board earlier & thought it quite apt. SEE BELOW:
