On Lancashirebmd, I can find a marriage in 1959 for a Robert Knowles marrying a Catherine Fielden. However, I cannot find it on any other site. The Lancashirebmd site doesn't give you the details like the others i.e Apr qtr 1959, Blackburn 8e page 339 etc - only CE12/22/454. Can I send this info to local Register Office and still get the cert? It seems to take ages if you order them online so I don't want to do that. Help pls!!

The C number you have is probably only of use to the local register office. Local offices are quicker than the GRO, generally. When you say you can't find it on any other site, where else have you checked? It may not be on Freebmd or Ancestry freebmd, but it should be in the complete indexes which you have to search quarter by quarter. nell

You could order from the office for the area that covers that district,but they may ask for the place (name of church or registry office). Best bet would be to give them a call,most local offices will turn a cert application round within a week or so,it depends how busy they are. I will nudge a thread that may help. Andrea, although I haven't ordered any certs through Lancashire BMD I think that is the way you order certs from the local register offices in Lancashire (no doubt somebody will correct me if I am wrong). I don't suppose the certs ordered from there could possibly take as long as those from the GRO. I think if you try to work out what local register office in Lancashire to order any particular cert from it would be quite complicated without using the Lancashire BMD website, to be honest, because they seem to have moved everything around so much. Of course the third option is GRO with (expensive) priority service.But nothing is really that urgent is it? Glen

Andrea If you go back to Lancashire BMD site, find the entry and then click on that reference number it will bring up another page with the request form filled in. It gives details of cost etc and where to send it. Hope this helps. Helen P.s I ordered a certificate this way and it took 4 days to arrive.
