Hi Merry 99.9% of the time you don't.LOL. I think the staff like to be able to go straight to the record,as opposed to looking for one of several possibles. It depends how they store the records, for example Lincoln is stored by parish and they have 100+ they may need to check if you just stated 'Lincolnshire'. I usually say the reason i want the cert is to tell me when and where, otherwise why would i order it? Glen

The only way is if the local register offices (to the events) would supply a scanned copy of the register, many offices will do this but you sometimes have to ask (or risk a typed or office staff hand written copy). If you know where and when the event s took place (from the GRO index) you can narrow the search for the register office staff, but they do often ask for actual place of marriage,(but don't quote the GRO number,it means nothing to a local office.) If you can locate which offices you need (via Genuki or by googling the council for the area) you can get a phone number to the registrars office and ask, some are extremely helpful and interested (but some not quite as much.LOL) Applications can usually be posted or phones through and the cost is £7-8 per cert. Hi, i have 2 marriages of my gg grandmother who i believe changed her name. I have the dates and places (one in Burton on Trent and one in London), and because she changed her name i think the only way to confirm is to possibly match signatures (father is the same and age is the same). As both marriages were in a register office, is it possible to get copies of the signed forms?
